Cross week of 8-7-17

Parents:     It’s hard to believe, but official practices are right around the corner. Our first official cross country practice is Wednesday, August 9 at 8:00AM to 10:15AM. We meet at the entrance to the stadium. We will continue to meet at 8:00AM until school begins. Then we will move to after school, at 3:00PM to 5:15PM. Starting Wednesday, all practices are mandatory unless they have talked to me ahead of time. All athletes must have a passed physical on file at school to participate in any high school sport. If you still need to take care of this detail, there are several walk up clinics in GR where sports physicals can happen without an appointment. Without a physical, I will need to send your child home. PLEASE have this done before Wednesday.  As you are aware, our school starts late on Monday mornings. Because of this, most sports have some type of strength training for their team on Monday before school. We are no exception. Beginning August 21, we will have team yoga in the cheer room off the Quest gym. We think this strength building is a very valuable thing to add to our team.  We will start at 7:00AM and end at 8:15AM, giving kids plenty of time to shower and eat breakfast.  Our annual kick off to the racing season is our alumni run at the Gainey. We allow anybody to race along side the eagle team in this rather informal event. The race is slated for Wednesday, August 23 at 6:00PM. As always, we will have a parent meeting 15 minutes after the last runner crosses the line.  The very next night, on Thursday, August 24, we will have a team shoe buying event at Gazelle Sports. It lasts from 6-9PM. Gazelle will offer 15% off all training shoes and 20% off all spikes. Just mention you are with GR Christian. In addition, they usually have free t-shirts, special colored shoe laces, and snacks to munch on. So if you need new running shoes, this is a great time to buy them. Our first official race is Saturday, August 26 in Benzie, Michigan. More details to follow, but we take the team to the beach in Frankfort after the race for a fun afternoon.  We have one race date change already. The OK gold meet hosted by Wyoming on October 4, has been changed to Tuesday, October 3. Please make sure you take note of that change. (Although this change is still not reflected on athletic.net) Speaking of athletic.net  please remember all times will show up here for every race. You can track anyone’s progress and run hypothetical meets. It’s real easy to waste a lot of time here, so beware! It’s very exciting to begin a new season again. We’ve had good numbers all summer with kids training and a great camp about 10 days ago. Thank you for your commitment to our team. Could I ask that you pray for us all season? We really appreciate your partnership in this way. If you need to ever reach me, my phone is (616)723-6345. Thanks,  Doug
