Parents: It was great to see the kids perform so well Tuesday night and leave Riverside Park as OK Gold champions! The teams are grateful and humble. We now prepare for our regional this Saturday at Allendale High School. Here are details for that meet: Varsity and alternate bus departs at 9:30JV bus departs at 11:00Boys varsity runs at 12:15Girls varsity runs at 1:15Division 2 awards after girls raceBoys JV runs at 2:45Girls JV runs at 3:30 We will have one bus return back to school, about 5:00. Teams that finish in the top 3 at regionals will go to the state final on Saturday, November 5. Should we qualify, I’d like the whole team at the final. Details will follow next week if that happens. If we qualify, the varsity and alternates will practice at the normal time the following week. All others may practice, but are not required to.  We will NOT have weights Monday morning, preferring to let the kids sleep a little longer. ( We will also not have them next week if we qualify for the final.) We still have several seats left for the footlocker trip Thanksgiving weekend. If interested, please have your child sign up. Remember, the cost is $75.00.  Our team banquet is scheduled for Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 in the all city gym. School will supply pizza, drinks, and place settings. Please bring a dessert or salad to share. Plan on about 2 hours for this banquet.  Please continue to prayer for our team these final 2 weeks. The kids and coaches often feel more pressure with the final meets. Thanks so much!!  Hope to see you Saturday in Allendale, Doug

Parents: Sorry, but three more things… 1) Yes, there is a bus both directions for Tuesday’s meet. 2) We sold out of county meet t-shirts, but if you’d still like one, I’m going to look into ordering more. I would need to know the size you want by Monday night. 3) Our team banquet will be Thursday, December 1. Pizza, drinks, and place settings provided. Please bring either a dessert or salad to share. More details coming.  On Sunday, October 16, 2016 1:30 PM, Debra Jager <d_djager@yahoo.com> wrote: Parents: It’s hard to believe, but we’ve run our final meet of the season at Gainey. I really want to thank you for all your help and support. It takes a lot of help to host 40 teams at a meet. Thanks so much for making it a great success!  I also want to thank our sponsors. We were able to put $3300.00 into our cross country gift account with sponsor money. The team also staffed the family night a few weeks ago, earning $500.00 for our team. I’ve put this money back into the team.  I hope your children have told you I have purchased chocolate milk and sports drinks all year for the kids after they run. To date I have purchased about $750.00 worth of post run drinks. In addition, I’m happy to tell you we are getting an Octane Zero Runner. This elliptical type equipment will duplicate running without any stress on the legs. This will be very helpful for our injured runners. It will arrive Tuesday and I can’t wait to try it out.( Our boosters are also contributing money for this rather expensive piece of equipment.) Here are details for this week: 1) We once again will have weights Monday morning at 7:15. Hope to see many kids there. 2) Tuesday is our league final. It will be at Riverside Park. Boys run at 4:45 and girls at 5:15. At this point, both teams are in first place, however, the girls must win the meet to capture the league title. ( The last meet is worth double toward the title.) All conference kids will be honored after this meet as well.  3) I realize there is a school break this week. Here is our practice schedule for Wednesday – Saturday. Wednesday’s practice is at 3:00, the same as every other day. All kids should be at this practice. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday we will practice at 9:00 AM. I will require all varsity kids be at these practices unless they talk to me ahead of time and I’m satisfied they will run on their own. All non varsity kids should run on their own at home. ( I will be the only coach at these practices because our teacher/coaches are required to be at the conference.)  4) I want to keep you informed on the regional meet next week. Everybody on the team will run at regionals. Our top 7 will represent us in the regional meet, while everyone else will run in the PROM – post regional open meet. The regional is at Allendale High School. All other details will come out next week. The top 3 teams in the regional will qualify for the MHSAA final on November 5. If our teams qualify, I want the whole team in attendance. We will have 2 buses to the final at MIS. Again, details to follow if we qualify.  Please keep the teams in your prayers. I have challenged the teams to pray each day for each member of the team. Many are taking this challenge to heart! It’s been great to witness a more caring attitude going through the team as we talk about “life” and non-running things in our orb.  Hope to see you all Tuesday, Doug

Cross week of Oct 10

Parents: The teams ran into very tough competition yesterday at Portage. The boys finished 2nd with the top 6 rated teams in the state present. The girls finished 5th with 9 of the top 10 ranked teams running. We now have less than 4 weeks until the State Final, so we will attempt to get faster and catch some teams ahead of us.  Here are details for this week in cross: 1) Because many kids were up late for homecoming festivities, I am going to cancel weights Monday morning to allow kids to sleep in a little longer. We will try to fit them into our normal practice time this week.  2) My company caters a dinner for special needs adults every fall. We hire about 20-25 of our team for about 2 hours of work. I pay them $20.00 cash at the end of the night. This dinner is Friday, October 28 at Ottawa Hills High School. It goes from 6:00 -7:45. It’s a fun night and easy money for the kids. I have a sign up sheet a practice if your child is interested.  3) I realize school will have a break from classes next week Thursday and Friday. We will still have practices on those days, as well as Saturday, but I am not sure when yet. After polling the team, we will select a time.  4) The County Meet is this Saturday. We are the host and I still need a lot of volunteer help. We need finish chute helpers, water station help, shirt sellers, and course marshals. If you can help, please email back. If you already signed up, please arrive by 8:30. Thanks!!There will be long sleeve dry-fit shirts for sale at the meet for $20.00. However, because we are the host, I can offer them to any on our team for $15.00 until Friday. The price goes to $20.00 on Saturday at the meet. Here are  race times for the meet including middle school: 9:00 – 5th and 6th grade mile9:20 – 7th and 8th boys 2 mile9:40 – 7th and 8th girls 2 mile10:10 – boys varsity ( 10 runners)10:40 – girls varsity ( 10 runners)11:10 – boys JV11:50 – girls JV12:25 – Awards There will be NO transportation for this meet. Kids need to arrive by 8:30. Please park in COS. Parking fee of $5.00 per person or a max of $10.00 per car. Please car pool as parking will be tight. Thanks again for your continued prayer support. We love it, Doug

Sorry – I have the wrong foot locker address – It should be footlockercc.com  ( I think my auto correct change it.)  By the way, our girls usually all run in the seeded race with Jr and Sr girls. They are allowed to and it races before the other one. About 50% of the girls ran a PR or season’s best, and about 40% of the boys did the same. Starts at 7:15.          – We return to league action on Wednesday. Our third jamboree will take place in Wayland. We’ve never run there before, but I’ve been told the course is at Wayland Middle School. ( I believe the high school is next door.) I’ve also been told to just get off exit 64 on US 131 and head east. As always, boys run at 4:45 and girls at 5:15. Buses will run both ways.     – Our second meet is the Portage Invitational at West Portage Middle School. Details at portageinvite.com   This is a very large meet with about 45 division 2 teams racing. There will be many ranked teams attending, so the competition is indeed tough. Our bus will depart at 10:15. Race times are:Boys Varsity 1:00Girls Varsity 2:00Boys JV 3:00Girls JV 4:00I am aware there is a homecoming dance that night, so we will leave as soon as possible after the last race. I know many girls and some boys will want to ride with parents to get back sooner. That’s fine, but please let a coach know. We will only have one return bus because I anticipate a much smaller crowd.      – The County Meet is now less than 2 weeks away. As hosts, we once again will need help at the meet. If you are able to help, please let me know. Thanks.     – If your child will be attending the foot locker race, please get your money in now. Cost is $75.00. Check to Doug Jager. Don’t forget to register for the race at footlocker.com   Be sure to select the midwest regional. DO NOT sign up for the pasta dinner. We will not be going to that. Thanks again for praying for athletes and coaches. We covet your partnership in the team in this way!  Doug
