Cross week of Aug 29

Cross week of Aug 29

Parents: What a great day at Benzie Saturday. The kids raced very well in the rain and we had a nice relaxing lunch at Frankfort after the run. I’ve also been informed there was a “timing glitch” a Benzie. The glitches added about 3 seconds to everyones recorded time. As a result, all times have been adjusted on athletic.net to 3 seconds faster.   Here is information for this week: 1) We will have optional weight lifting again Monday morning at 7:15. We will end by 8:00 so kids will be able to shower and eat before classes begin. 2) The long sleeve dry-fit shirts will be here soon. Just to remind you, the actual cost is $17.00, but you can purchase them from me for $10.00. If you opt to not purchase one, you child will need to return it to me at the end of the year.  3) Please consider helping at one of our two large invites that we host – the Cougar/Falcon at the Eagles nest (CFE) or the County meet. Thanks! We can not host meets without parent help.  We can also still take more race sponsors if you or your business is interested. All money goes right into our gift account.  Cost is $400.00. Thanks again! 4) I don’t know if you are aware that we have a “spike bank” in our garage. Not sure you want to buy spikes? Maybe we have your size. You are welcome to take a pair free if we have the right size for your son or daughter.  5) This coming weekend is Labor Day. We will have no organized practices on Friday, Saturday, or Monday. Your child will be given workouts for each of these days and is expected to complete them. I’m sure kids will organize into small groups to run together.  6) The week after Labor Day, we have two meets. Both will be held at South Christian’s athletic complex. The first is Wednesday, September 7 and the second Saturday, September 10. Details next week.  Thanks so much for you support! Please continue to lift the team up in prayer, Doug

Cross week of 8-22

Parents: Here is information you need to know for cross country the week of August 22: This Tuesday is our annual Alumni Race at the Gainey complex. The race begins at 6:00 PM. There is NO transportation for this meet. Please have your child at the Gainey by 4:15. We need to tour the course and warm up together. Don’t forget, all family, friends, or alumni may run this meet with the Eagles. About 15 minutes after the conclusion of the race, there will be a parents meeting near the concession building. ( The kids will be cooling down at this time.) On Saturday we travel to Benzie High School for our first official meet of the season. It’s our longest trip of the season, but a very fun trip as we take the kids to the beach in Frankfort after the meet. ( If you desire, there is an open race at 8:00AM.)Your child will need money for lunch. Here are the details for the day:Bus leaves GR Christian at 5:45 AM. Bus will stop at the Post Drive exit on 131 at 6:10 AM – Any North siders may prefer this option. Please let me know if you will be here.Boys Varsity runs at 10:10Girls Varsity runs at 10:45Boys JV runs at 11:15Girls JV runs at 12:00Awards at 12:45Leave for beach about 1:30Leave Frankfort about 5:30 ishReturn to Post Dr at 7:45Return to High School at 8:00 It’s not too early to talk about the large invites we host. The Cougar/Falcon at the Eagles nest is in September and the County meet is in October. For both meets, we need volunteers to help run the meets successfully. We need course marshals, parking attendants, water station helpers, finish chute helpers, and a person to hand out team packets. If you can help, please get back to me with your preferred job. No matter what job you do, you will be able to watch your son or daughter when they race. For both races we also need race sponsors. You or your business will be on every tee shirt and will get mentioned several times as a sponsor. The cost is $400.00 for both races or $250.00 to sponsor just one. The nice thing is that 100% of all sponsor money goes directly into our gift account to be used for cross country. Please contact me to be added to the sponsor list. The deadline is Friday, September 9. The kids are looking forward to the races this week! Hope to see you there. Thanks for your support if every way, Doug

Cross week of 8-15

Parents: We begin our second week of official practices. Here are details to know: 1) Practices will be 8:00 AM – 10:15 both Monday and Tuesday. However, Freshmen need to run on their own Tuesday so they can attend their “practice day of classes”.  Meet in the all city lobby to start each practice.  2) Beginning Wednesday, all practices will run 3:00 – 5:15, right after school. Again, meet in the all city lobby. We have our own locker rooms to change into running attire.  Your child is highly encouraged to take a lock and secure their valuables while practicing.  3) Thursday is our team picture day. Please have your child wear their camp shirt. If they didn’t attend camp, get as close to slate blue as possible. Each team members has been offered an order form for pictures. Please return by Thursday to get individual or team pictures. More order forms are available if needed. 4) Our annual alumni race is next Tuesday, August 23 at the Gainey complex. It will begin at 6:00. We will have NO team transportation to the Gainey. Please have your child at the Gainey by 4:15. We will tour the course and warm up together before the race. Besides our team, anybody can run in this race. Parents, siblings, friends, alumni, etc. Lace em up and start the trash talking! Run along side the Eagles you will be cheering for the next 12 weeks. There will be a brief parent meeting right after the race near the concession stand while the team cools down.  5) Our race at Benzie on August 27 is less then 2 weeks away. More details next week, but the buses will leave at 5:45 AM. (we will make a stop in the Rockford area on 131 to help our North side families.) Following the races we will take the team to the beach at Frankfort. (weather permitting).  We thank you for your support and prayers, Doug

Fw: Cross Country Week of 8-8

Fw: Cross Country Week of 8-8

On Friday, August 5, 2016 7:01 PM, Debra Jager <d_djager@yahoo.com> wrote: Parents: It’s hard to believe, but our cross country season is upon us. I will try to keep you informed of all things related to cross country at GRCHS by sending out an email each week, usually on Sunday. Here are details to know now: 1) Our official practices begin Wednesday, August 10. We will meet at 8:00 AM near the stadium entrance. Practices will move to 3:00 when school begins on August 17. Plan on practices going just over 2 hours.  The State mandates ALL high school athletes pass a physical each school year. A physical taken after 4-15-16 will work for the entire school year. A copy of the physical must be given to the athletic office at school. I can not let your child practice without this. Please make work of this. There are a couple places in town that give walk up sports physicals. 2) Our team’s first race, a scrimmage,  will be our annual alumni race on Tuesday, August 23 at the Gainey complex. More details will follow on this traditional start to our season. Anyone can run in this meet, including parents or siblings. 3) On August 27 we travel to Benzie for our first official meet. We will take the team to the beach at Frankfort after this meet. More details to follow on this too. 4) If you have not already, please register at eaglesrunning.com  Future emails will go through there, all past coach notes will be archived there, you will be able to link to our schedule or results, and you will be able to see any “press” we receive. The password to get registered is 2016eagleswin  We could also use a photo person for this site if any of you are interested. 5) We have a rather fun site for cross country in Michigan. It is athletic.net  You can view our schedule there, see all results, and run “hypothetical” meets. If you highlight a meet, you can often see meet info and time schedules. It will also rank teams all throughout the state and country. ( Disclaimer – it’s easy to spend too much time here.) 6) For the first time ever, I have scheduled a shoe/spike night at Gazelle. It is Friday, August 12 from 6-9 PM. Our team will get a 15% discount on all trainers and 20% on all spikes. ( This beats the normal discount of 10% for high school teams.) So if you need new shoes or spikes, you may want to wait for this night next week Friday.  I’m looking forward to a fun season. Please partner with our team by praying for athletes and coaches. Thanks! Doug
